United Airlines plans to launch a direct flight between Cape Town and New York

United Airlines has sought permission to launch a direct route between Cape Town and New York.

The airline plans to introduce 3 weekly non-stop flights between the two countries, beginning in December this year. This route is expected to reduce the current travel time between the cities by four hours, by eliminating stops on the way. United has announced that the route will be serviced by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which will seat a total of 252 passengers.

The suggested flights would depart New York/Newark at 8 30pm and arrive in Cape Town at 6 00 pm the following day, returning back to New York at 8 50pm and arriving at 5 45 am the next day.
